Sunday July 4th, 2004 - An explosion on a 28-foot cabin cruiser hurled a couple into Chautauqua Lake late Sunday afternoon.
Guy W. Horrocks, 64, and his wife, Nancy C., 62, of Bemus Point, were rescued by the water patrol of the Chautauqua County Sheriff´s Department after the explosion at 4:40 p.m.
Both were taken to WCA Hospital, Jamestown. Horrocks suffered first-degree burns; his wife had minor burns.
"Mr. Horrocks could smell gas but could not find a leak," deputies said in their report. "He turned on the blower and opened the hatches. About this time he heard a "poof´ and then the boat blew up." The boat was a total loss.
